What is environmental awareness & why is it important?

Our news screens are full of frightening images & almost unimaginable statistics about the damage we have caused, and continue to cause  to the environment.

For example:

  • in the USA, Japan, & Europe an average person uses between 250 & 300 kilos of paper every year. In India the figure is 5 kilos, & in some countries it is less than 1 kilo. If everyone used 200 kilos there would be no trees left.*

  • globally, more than 45 million cubic metres per day are lost through leakage. A cubic metre is the size of 11 medium boxes each 18x18x17 inches.**

  • The SE of England has less water available per person than the desert states of Syria and Sudan.**

  • Recycling aluminum does not reduce the quality of the metal, so it can be recycled indefinitely. With a constant demand for aluminum cans, manufacturers can have an aluminum can back on store shelves as a new can in as little as 60 days of being recycled. Producing new cans from recycled aluminium saves 95% of the energy used to produce cans from ore, known as bauxite.***

Environmental awareness is having an understanding of the impact we all have on the planet - as individuals & businesses. It is important because we only have this planet to live on & we need to start taking care of it, fast.
